Abdul Hakim Rajab al-Waer, assistant director-general of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), arrived in Baghdad on Wednesday to discuss the mechanism for organizing the ministerial session of the 36th session of the Food Conference.
A spokesman for the General Secretariat of the cabinet, Haider Majid, said, in a statement to the Iraqi News Agency (INA), that "the Assistant Director-General of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), and the Regional Representative for the Near East and North Africa, Abdul Hakim Rajab Al-Waer, arrived in Baghdad, to coordinate with the relevant authorities, Concerned in the organization of the Ministerial Session of the 36th Session of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations Regional Conference for the Near East (NERC 36) to be held this year, under the title “Recovery and Restart: Innovation for Better, Greener, and Resilient Agri-Food Systems to Achieve the Sustainable Development Goals” ".
"Iraq will host the 36th session of the conference, which will be held in two phases, the first phase was devoted to the meeting of senior officials, which was held by default from January 10-13, 2022, while the second phase includes the ministerial meeting with actual and hypothetical presence, which will be held from February 7-8, 2022," he said.
"During the conference, agriculture ministers, partner organizations, agencies and senior officials from member states will meet to discuss regional challenges and priorities on this issue in the Near East and North Africa, ensuring the effectiveness of FAO's impact in the region and helping to prioritize its work over the next two years," he said.
