Ministry of Health - MOH denied on Saturday, recording a death case in Omicron in Dhi Qar, while it indicated that the number of the new cases ranged between a third and a half of the total number, according to the daily toll of Corona, confirming that most of what is currently recorded is for the non vaccinated.

The spokesman for the Ministry of Health, Saif Al-Badr, told Al-Iraqiya News TV as the Iraqi News Agency (INA) followed up, that he "contacted the Director General of Dhi Qar Health and denied the recording of a death case as a result of the virus with the Omicron mutant and it is unverified news,”

"On the other hand, it is possible that deaths may occur with any mutant as a result of recording infections with it," he added, noting that "the risk groups, if infected with the corona mutant, may worsen the situation and lead to death,”

Regarding Omicron infections, Al-Badr confirmed that "infections with the mutant reach one third and rise by half, and the matter may increase in the coming days, and we are following what is happening in the world in terms of an increase in the number of mutant infections, as it is rapidly spreading,”

He stressed that "the majority of corona cases in this wave are for those who have not been vaccinated with the corona vaccine, and we confirm that the first and second doses provide high protection, as if any vaccinated person is infected, his injury will be slight and he will not need to enter the hospital, which is what we have recorded in practice,”

As for the ministry’s proposals to deal with the increase in cases and the prevalence of non-compliance with preventive measures by citizens, Al-Badr indicated that “taking any decision regarding returning to the lock down is within the authority of the Supreme Committee for National Health and Safety, and we warn against entering an epidemic stage more dangerous than its predecessors, as we call for commitment to prevention and receiving vaccinations to avoid danger,”
