100 years have passed since the founding of the Iraqi police, and just as the members of this apparatus celebrate the anniversary of the founding of their ancient and important institution, the Iraqis did not forget the participation of their brothers in this occasion, recalling the great role they played of all kinds in defeating terrorism and liberating the land and taking a role The initiative in many battles that the security forces fought against ISIS terrorist gangs.
Since its establishment, the police has always been close to the citizen and keen to protect his security, and for years it has been racing against time to prevent crimes and hold the weak-hearted people accountable who try to tamper with the security of the citizen and his property.

After the year 2003, the responsibilities of this apparatus began to escalate to multi-tasking and expand roles, especially after the formation of the Federal Police Forces, the Rapid Response Division and the Federal Investigation Agency, so that the path of this Iraqi institution took a new direction that transcends the role entrusted to the police and to find the heroes of this apparatus at the forefront of defenders of the land of civilizations from the taint of terrorism They became the forefront in all battles within the liberation operations from terrorism, and the blood of its sons spilled this hard land on criminals from terrorists, obscurantists and others, and in another place we find police heroes fighting organized crime and chasing white poison dealers tirelessly.

This is how we entrusted the sons of this disciplined security corps who were and still are in their era of love for this country, and here we are standing on the threshold of a full centenary of the age of this ancient institution to celebrate it after a century has passed since its founding.

In this regard, an advisor in the Ministry of Interior, Lieutenant-General Mustafa Al-Fekiki, told the Iraqi News Agency (INA): "The Ministry of Interior's main task is to preserve and implement the law inside Iraq, and it is in direct contact with the citizen, which includes many things such as issuing official papers such as civil status identity cards." As well as its role in investigative and administrative issues, including planning, human resources, infrastructure and many other issues.

He pointed out that "there are many changes that occurred in the ministry, including the border as one of its parts, and then it turned into the Ministry of Defense, and after the regime change, formations were added to the ministry that are basically not among its duties, but were added to the ministry because of the circumstances that the country went through, which are The Federal Police, as well as the Rapid Response Division, and these two commanders have a combat duty, and they participated in major activities, including the liberation of our lands that fell into the hands of ISIS and saboteurs.

He also added, "Among the formations of the Ministry of the Interior are the International Interpol, the fight against crime, drugs and everything related to police matters, as well as the Intelligence Agency, which is a new formation specialized in investigation and terrorism.".

In turn, security analyst Fadel Abu Ragheef explained that "every year, the 6th and 9th of January are distinguished because the establishment of the Iraqi army and police is mentioned in them," stressing that "the police are the icon of internal security and have worked closely with the citizen, because their interaction with the citizen began since Founded in 1922.

During the year 1931, training courses for officers were developed, and after that he joined the non-commissioned officers and commissioners, and at the beginning of the establishment in 1936, it was called the gendarmerie forces, which soon changed its name in the forties to the police."

Al-Fekiki indicated that “the replacement of its name from the gendarmerie to the police gives a kind of safety and reassurance to the citizen in the application of the law, and they are considered among the tools of judicial control, and several police directorates have been created, including the Directorate of Civil Defense and Public Traffic that regulates traffic, as well as the general police, general nationality and even medicine.” Al-Adly was affiliated with the police because he was in contact with the citizen and what belonged to the citizen.”
