Baghdad-INA
Anbar province announced Tuesday that it has obtained official approvals to add 250 megawatts to the national electric network, noting that the move will solve the energy crisis in the western region.
"Anbar province has obtained the approval of the Ministry of Oil to equip the gas-powered Akaz power plant with the necessary fuel to operate it with an estimated capacity of 250 MW in preparation for its connection to the national network," Anbar governor's energy adviser Aziz al-Tarmoz told The Iraqi News Agency (INA).
"This step came to resolve the electricity crisis in the western region, which has been suffering from power outages for not a short time, due to sabotage of tanker lines and the transformative plants, as well as a decrease in Euphrates river levels," he said.
"There is high-level coordination between the provincial office and the Ministry of Oil to ensure the plant's fuel needs, following the agreement concluded by the plant management with the Ministry of Electricity to complete its connection to the national network by the company implementing the project to equip the western regions with electricity," he said.
