Ministry of Health confirmed on Saturday, that it did not detect any cases with Omicron mutant so far, while noting that Iraq's records of cases with the new mutant is very likely.

"We thank the ongoing efforts of the media in their support of the Ministry of Health in response to the Corona pandemic, as well as its continuation and follow-up in spreading the message of education and health awareness," said the Ministry spokesman Saif Al-Badr in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA).

He noted that "events are accelerating regarding developments in the new mutant and the measures taken in countries near and far from Iraq,”

"Iraq has not detected any cases with the new mutation until Saturday, although this matter is very possible, as the ministry is readiness to deal with this variable,”

He pointed out that "the basics of prevention remain the same, represented by adherence to preventive measures, the most important of which is wearing masks, which have been proven to achieve a very high protection against new cases from the virus, in addition to physical distancing, washing and sterilizing hands constantly, and receiving vaccinations," noting that "the last sober data from approved international bodies confirm to receive vaccinations, especially the third dose for risk groups, as it provides protection against all strains, including the new mutant,”

”There are several scientific institutions now continuing to research, experiment, collect and analyze data, and every day there are developments in this regard, but the vaccine still achieves real protection against infection with this virus," he stressed.
