Iraqi Ministry of Health and Environment confirmed on Saturday, the ability of its labs to detect the Omicron mutant, while noting that the vaccine protects against the dangers of the Omicron mutant at a high rate.
“There is no vaccine that is 100% effective, this is for all vaccines, whether for Corona or others, as all vaccines and all preventive means in the general sense are prevented by a certain percentage, so we emphasize on all measures to obtain real protection," said the ministry's spokesman, Saif Al-Badr in a statement to the Iraqi News Agency (INA).
He added, "Vaccines achieve a protection rate of 80 to 90 and 95 percent sometimes, as it depends on the person receiving the vaccine,”
"The confirmed preliminary information proves that the vaccine is effective on more than one strain, whether Omicron or other strains, and the World Health Organization stresses the need to receive vaccines and continue vaccination operations in an extensive manner,” he noted.
Al-Badr stressed that "the Ministry of Health owns laboratories capable of diagnosing the Omicron strain or others,”
He pointed out that "meetings are ongoing, whether at the Ministry's center or the Presidential Order Committee 217, regarding the mutated Corona virus Omikron, as the Supreme Committee for National Health and Safety meets periodically, to study developments on the virus and take decisions,"
