Baghdad-INA
The Directorate of Civil Defense is preparing new plan to impose new fines of up to 10 million dinars for violators of safety conditions with the closure of their violating projects, while stressing that the previous instructions were not deterrent, which caused an increase in fire accidents as they reached 29,000 accidents during the current year.
The Director-General of Civil Defense, Kadhim Salman Buhan, said in a statement to Al-Sabah newspaper, which was followed by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), that "The directorate sought to amend some instructions and expedite their implementation in order to ensure the safety of citizens’ lives and properties."
He explained that "The previous instructions were not deterrent, that’s why thousands of projects, shops and laboratories violate safety conditions, and therefore there was an annual increase in the rate of fire accidents."
Buhan indicated that "The amendment included closing the violating project, factory or shop permanently, and shall not engage in any industrial, agricultural or economic activity and shall not open until the violation has been eliminated, and receiving the safety certificate from the Civil Defense Directorate, as well as imposing a fine of 10 million dinars on the owner of the violating project."
