Baghdad-INA
The Antiquities Authority announced today, Sunday, its plans to recover the smuggled artifacts out of Iraq, while confirming that there are countries that deliberately not return the Iraqi antiquities.
The head of the commission, Laith Majid, said in a statement to the Iraqi News Agency (INA), that "there are some countries that criminalize and prohibit trade in Iraqi antiquities, such as the United States of America, where some smugglers were arrested to the United States, and antiquities were returned to Iraq."
And he indicated that "not all countries are cooperating with Iraq on this file, but the commission is working on filing lawsuits to urge the retrieve of all antiquities from the lagging countries that do not return the smuggled artifacts pieces to Iraq, especially as they are deliberate to do so."
