The Rumaila oil field witnessed the construction of one of Iraq’s most advanced water injection plants to help raise oil production and support the field's long-term strategy.
The sixth injection plant is the first to be built in Rumaila in 40 years and the first water injection plant built by the Rumaila Operating Authority.
Since the sixth injection plant was fully operational, 18 oil-producing wells have been reactivated and some 63,000 barrels of oil per day have been added to Iraq.
"The level of daily oil production of Rumaila increased by about 40% under the management of the Authority," said Hussein Abdul Kadhim Hussein, deputy director of the Rumaila Operating Authority, adding that "one of the main elements behind this is the Rumaila water injection strategy, which increased from about 250,000 barrels per day in June 2010 to high levels of more than 1.5 million barrels per day in 2021.
"The full entry of the sixth injection station into service is a remarkable achievement," said Orhan Koliev, director of the Authority. Over the past 11 years, the water injection program has focused on the northern rumaila, which has led to a rise in oil production from the north of the field by more than 150%.
