Iraq signed the Arab Protocol to Prevent and Combat Trafficking in Human Beings at the headquarters of the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States.
The reporter of the Iraqi News Agency (INA) stated that "Iraq, represented by the Minister of Justice, Salar Abdul Sattar, has signed the Arab Protocol to Prevent and Combat Trafficking in Persons, Especially Women and Children," noting that "the signing took place at the headquarters of the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States, which is the protocol attached and supplementary to the Arab Convention." To combat transnational organized crime, which was approved by the Council of Arab Ministers of Justice and Interior at their joint meeting in Tunis on March 4, 2019.
In press statements after the signing, the Minister of Justice stressed that "by signing this protocol, Iraq is keen to strengthen Iraq's role in cooperating with Arab countries in combating the phenomenon of human trafficking, especially women and children, which comes as a complement to the Arab Convention against Transnational Organized Crime."
He added, "This protocol enters into force after the ratification of 7 Arab countries," noting that "the protocol is part of a comprehensive Arab agreement to combat organized crime."
