Lebanese President Michel Aoun called on the cabinet to resume meetings quickly with the aim of reaching an agreement with the International Monetary Fund. Aoun also stressed the independence of the judiciary in investigations regarding the explosion in the port of Beirut, and no need for politicians to interfere.

A deal with the International Monetary Fund is widely seen as the only way for Lebanon to get much-needed international aid.
It is noteworthy that the Lebanese Cabinet has not met since October 12, pending a solution the crisis that erupted due to accusing the head of the investigation team, Judge Tariq Bitar, of bias and demanding keep him out of the investigation.
