The Border Guard Command confirmed on Wednesday that the border with Syria has been fully controlled.
"The forces have begun fortifying the Iraqi-Syrian border," said Lt. Gen. Hamed al-Husseini, commander of the border guard forces, in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA).
"Border guards have come a long way in securing the Iraqi-Syrian border from the northwest side of Nineveh province," he said.
"The border is in a state of stabilized security and most terrorist infiltrations and smuggling have been cut off," he said, stressing that "forces are fully in control of the border."
