The Independent High Elections Commission confirmed today, Thursday that the wide participation of the voter gives legitimacy to the elections.
"We look forward to a high mass participation in the elections," said Judge (Jaleel Adnan Khalaf), the Chairman of the Board of Commissioners at IHEC, in a press conference attended by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), stressing that “Voters broad participation is what gives legitimacy to the elections."
Khalaf elaborates, "IHEC listens to all voters and candidates and monitors violations on a daily basis, and that whoever buys cards cannot forge and vote with them," calling on "voters to receive their cards at the registration centers."
He added, "Candidates who used a state municipal vehicle were excluded, in addition to the exclusion of 20 candidates from the elections, half of whom did not complete their official documents," noting that "IHEC is working to take strict measures against violators of electoral propaganda, while calling on the media to help monitoring the violations."
The Chairman of BoC confirmed, "The results of public and private voting will be announced within 24 hours according to the election law, as IHEC relied on the election law in calculating the percentage of participation in the polls," pointing out that "the number of registered voters is nearly 21 million, and about 671 voters are entitled to vote within prisons."
Khalaf concluded his speech by affirming that the election devices is programmed to open at seven a.m. and close electronically at six p.m.
