The supreme religious authority - Marja’ encouraged “everyone to participate consciously and responsibly in the upcoming elections”.
“Although it is not without some shortcomings, but it remains the safest way to cross the country into a future that is hoped to be better than the past, and avoids the risk of falling into the abyss of chaos and political obstruction,” according to a statement by the office of the supreme religious authority, Ali al-Sistani, on the upcoming October 10 elections, received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA).
The statement included, “Honorable voters should take lessons from past experiences and be aware of the value of their votes and their important role in shaping the future of the country, so they can take advantage of this important opportunity to bring about a real change in the administration of the state and remove corrupt as well as incompetent hands from its main joints, which is possible if the conscious ones join hands and participate in voting effectively to make a good choice, otherwise the failures of the previous parliaments and the governments emanating from them will be repeated, and there will be no regrets,”
The supreme religious authority confirmed what it said before the last elections that “it does not support any candidate or electoral list at all, and that it is all up to the voters' conviction and their opinions,”
The Marja’ stressed on “scrutinizing the progress of the candidates in their constituencies and to elect only the honest and the good, who is keen on the sovereignty, security and prosperity of Iraq, who is entrusted with its original values and supreme interests, and beware that they empower incompetent people or those involved in corruption or parties that do not believe in the constants of the honorable Iraqi people or it operates outside the framework of the constitution by occupying seats in the Parliament, because it poses great risks to the future of the country,”
“Those in charge of the elections should work to conduct it in a reassuring atmosphere, far from the side effects of money, illegal weapons, or external interference, and that they observe their integrity and preserve the votes of the voters, as it is a trust in their necks,” added the statement.
The statement concluding in Marja’ wishing the success for the elections praying “God to grant the success,”
