The legal advisor to the President of the Republic, Munif Al-Shammari, confirmed today, Friday, that Iraq may go towards concluding bilateral agreements with the concerned countries for the purpose of recovering its funds.
Al-Shammari said in a statement to the Iraqi News Agency (INA), that "the law to recover Iraq's funds was sent to the House of Representatives a while ago, but it is expected that it will not be passed during the current session for a number of reasons, including the preoccupation of the members of the Council with the electoral campaign, in addition to the imminent date of the parliamentary elections." It is expected that the next parliament, which will emerge from the early elections, will give priority to passing the law, as it is important and vital and returns the looted funds outside Iraq.
He pointed out that "the holding of the money recovery conference in Baghdad is a positive point for Iraqi diplomacy," revealing that "
He added, "Iraq hopes that the countries will cooperate with it in the file of recovering the money and may go towards concluding bilateral agreements with the concerned countries for the purpose of recovering its funds."
