United Nations revealed on Thursday for UNDP projects in Iraq, while the Iraqi government confirmed the success of the return of 4.8 million displaced people to their homes.
The Director of the United Nations Development Program in Iraq, Zina Ali Ahmed, told the Iraqi News Agency (INA), "The United Nations Development Program has a project to restore stability in areas liberated from ISIS terrorist gangs, from which more than 2,900 projects have been implemented in infrastructure and employment." Revealing that "there are wide programs and many projects implemented by the program in Iraq.".
Ahmed added, "The program also has projects related to the environment and sustainable development that are being implemented, for example in the marshes and water projects in Basra, in addition to several projects concerned with supporting the institutional capacities of the Iraqi government, such as projects related to combating corruption and others.".
She stressed, "The displaced and returning them to their homes and cities is the main goal of the largest project implemented by the United Nations Development Program in Iraq, and it is part of the project to restore stability in Iraq," noting that "Iraq has returned three quarters of the displaced, a figure that we should all be proud of, and it was done by the efforts of the Iraqi government."
She also explained, "At the beginning of the crisis, more than 6.5 million displaced people, and more than two-thirds of them returned, at a rate of 4.8 million," noting that "there are some segments facing difficulties in returning, and this is what the Iraqi government is working on with the support of the Development Program."
