Halbousi: Iraq is looking forward to the visit of Sheikh Al-Azhar

    Parliament Speaker Muhammad Al-Halbousi confirmed today, Thursday, that Iraq is counting on the visit of Sheikh Al-Azhar, noting that it will be a historic visit to support the brotherly relations between Cairo and Baghdad.

    The Iraqi News Agency (INA) correspondent stated that "the Iraqi delegation headed by Parliament Speaker Muhammad al-Halbousi met today with the Sheikh of Al-Azhar Al-Sharif Ahmed Al-Tayeb in Cairo," noting that "Al-Tayeb welcomed the delegation and confirmed that Al-Azhar and its students and elders have a close relationship with Iraq, which is the relationship of brotherhood, Arabism, Islam and science." And the biography of Iraq’s distinguished scholars is present in all our curricula and lectures due to their scientific efforts and what they provided in the service of religious sciences and the Arabic language.”

     He added, "The delegation expressed the aspiration and anticipation of Iraq with all its sects to visit the Sheikh of Al-Azhar, and that Iraq's governorates, neighborhoods, historical landmarks, and scholars are ready for this important visit, which represents a strong message for the unity of the Iraqi people and their appreciation for their scholars, and the unity of the Arab and Islamic peoples in the face of violence and extremism and their adherence to their religion, values and great cultural and civilizational legacy." ".

     While Al-Tayeb stressed that he "also looks forward to this visit, and longs to see a country and cities that have always been attached to the thought of its sheikhs and scholars and their efforts in the service of science and advocacy, and that he is interested in expanding the program of his visit to Iraq to include meeting with the various sects of the Iraqi people and Iraq's historical landmarks," pointing out that "the nation's unity." And their cohesion is one of the purposes of Islam, and we have no choice but this path for the sake of security, stability and prosperity.”

    Last Tuesday, Parliament Speaker Mohamed Al-Halbousi arrived in the Egyptian capital, Cairo, at the head of a parliamentary delegation on an official visit.
