The Parliamentary Security and Defense Committee revealed, on Friday, the category that is exempted from the compulsory military service in accordance with the law, affirming that the compulsory service includes privileges such as loans, granting residential lands, in addition to financial amounts.
“The Compulsory Military Service Law defines the service for specific periods of time, according to the academic degree, and it includes financial allocations to the soldiers who enlist according to the law”, Committee member Ali Al-Ghanimi told the Iraqi News Agency (INA).
He added, "The Ministry of Defense has not yet confirmed its readiness to implement what is stated in the law, in terms of infrastructure and work requirements in accordance with the rules of The Compulsory Military Service Law, due to the large numbers that expected to join the service”, affirming that the periods of compulsory service are different, ranging from two years, one year and a half or nine months for graduates, and the exemption from the compulsory service included holders of a doctorate degree.
Al-Ghanimi pointed out that "the law has not yet reached the parliament, and it cannot be passed during the current session, and it may be deferred to the next parliament."
