The General Company for Ports of Iraq confirmed, on Saturday, that the fire broke out in the port of Umm Qasr is under control.
The Iraqi Ports Company media office said in a statement received by Iraqi news agency (INA): "That the fire of the excavator (Umm Qasr) is simple and under the control of the fire teams, as no casualties were recorded."
Anmar Abdul Moneim al-Safi, head of the media and relations department of the General Company for Iraqi Ports, told the Iraqi News Agency (INA) that "the giant drilling ship excavator (Umm Qasr) went through an accidental fire which was immediately controlled, noting that the fire was
accidental and did not result in major human or material losses.
On his part, Deputy General Manager of the Company Ahmed Jassim, said that "The fire broke out in the room of the chief engineer only, and that the damage was only in the furniture of the room, and no injuries were recorded.
"The preliminary indications of the incident indicate that it is accidental, and that the company's management immediately opened an investigation", he said.
