The Second Deputy Speaker of the Parliament, Bashir Al-Haddad confirmed today, Monday, that the draft budget for 2022 did not reach the Parliament, while the Parliamentary Finance Committee indicated that the period for passing the 2022 budget needs half of next year.
Al-Haddad told the Iraqi News Agency (INA) the government has not sent the draft budget to the Parliament until now, because it was not completed, noting that the remaining period of Parliament is not enough to discuss the budget law.
Al-Haddad added, Parliament has to dissolute itself two days before the elections on October tenth of 2021.
Ahmed Al-Saffar the financial committee's rapporteur, told the Iraqi News Agency (INA), that the government has not yet delivered the draft of the federal budget law for the year 2022 to the Parliament, and the Parliament does not have any information about the expected deficit within the budget, noting that any draft law presented during the current period will be worthless, since the Parliament does not have enough time to pass due to the early elections.
The government will turn into a caretaker government during the elections, noting that passing the budget needs time up to the middle of next year, Al-Saffar added
Earlier, Finance Minister Ali Allawi announced on Thursday the completion of the preparation of the 2022 budget, then indicated that it would be presented within 3 weeks in the Cabinet.
