The Independent High Electoral Commission confirmed, today, Tuesday, that it is close to holding exceptional elections.
The Commission said in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), that "the Chairman of the Board of Commissioners, Judge Jalil Adnan Khalaf, received at the headquarters of the Commission in Baghdad, both the Swedish Ambassador to Iraq Jonas Lofven and the First Secretary at the Norwegian Embassy Owe Denstad.".
The Chairman of the Board of Commissioners explained to his guests from the Swedish and Norwegian embassies, according to the statement, that "Iraq is close to holding exceptional elections on the tenth of next October, which came in order to respond to the popular demands expressed by the protesters in more than one Iraqi province.".
He pointed out that "the composition of the current commission, its law, the electoral system and the election law itself were all based on what the popular demands had called for."
And he indicated, "The commission has made great strides in preparing for the election day, which makes us confident of our technical preparations."
For his part , the Swedish Ambassador and the first secretary spoke at the Norwegian Embassy in support of their countries for the establishment of the elections on schedule, and that Sweden and Norway in connection with the configuration to send observers contribute to the follow - up to the electoral event , which looks the international community for its success in expressing the aspirations of Iraqis to choose their representatives in a free and transparent.
