Pentagon: The evacuation of nearly 7,000 people from Afghanistan

    The US Department of Defense (Pentagon), announced on Thursday, the evacuation of nearly 7 thousand people from Afghanistan through Kabul airport.

    The Pentagon said in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA): "We are in contact with the Taliban to allow the crossing of Afghans to Kabul airport, and the process is going well, and 7,000 people have been evacuated so far from the airport, which is safe and open for air operations."

    The Pentagon added, "More than 5,200 American soldiers are currently deployed in Kabul, and no decision has been taken to change the time limit related to the American presence in Afghanistan," noting: "Our military aircraft are currently flying in Afghanistan only for observation and to complete the withdrawal mission."

    They also addetion to that , "There are reports of pockets of resistance in some areas of Afghanistan, but our main task is the evacuations."

    The Pentagon also indicated that they "made it clear to the Taliban that any attack on its citizens or obstruction of the evacuations from the airport will be responded to with force," stressing that it "maintains contacts with the Taliban movement and has understandings related to facilitating people's access to the airport." Pointring out: "We still have the ability to control counter-terrorism operations if terrorist attacks occur in Afghanistan."
