Messi reveals why he joined PSG

Lionel Messi, the star of Paris Saint-Germain, spoke about the reasons that prompted him to join the ranks of the French team.

"I am looking forward to starting a new chapter of my career in Paris," Messi said on the official website of Saint-Germain.

The Argentine star added: "The club and its vision are completely in line with my ambitions, and I am fully aware of the amount of talent that the team includes, as well as the competence of the officials."

He concluded: "I am determined to build alongside the players and officials something wonderful for the club and the fans. I can't wait for my feet to touch the Princes Park."

 For his part, Nasser Al-Khelaifi, president of the French club, said: "I am happy that Lionel joined and chose Saint-Germain. We are proud of this step, and we welcome him to his family."

He added: "Messi did not hide his desire to continue to develop at the highest level and win trophies, his ambition fully commensurate with the aspirations of the club's management."

He concluded: "Messi's joining means a great success for our international contracting policy, adding to our wonderful coach and his technical staff, and I hope that this team will make history for our supporters around the world."

Messi signed a contract linking him to the Parisian club until the summer of 2023, with the possibility of extending for an additional season, in a free transfer deal after the expiration of his contract with Barcelona.
