A statement by the ministry, received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), stated that "Foreign Minister Fouad Hussein and the accompanying delegation met with Spanish Foreign Minister Arancha Gonzalez, and during the meeting, they exchanged joint views on bilateral relations and the current situation in the region."
The statement added, "Hussain presented the most important preparations in place for holding the elections next October and the current challenges in the region, praising Spain and the European Union's support for sending observers during the upcoming elections."
The minister pointed out that Iraq and Spain have many commonalities, pointing out the importance of benefiting from the Spanish expertise in the field of industry and agriculture, exchanging experiences in various sectors, enhancing trade and investment exchange, and supporting Iraqi and Spanish companies for joint investment.
He stressed the need to continue bilateral meetings to enhance cooperation with Spain, conclude bilateral memoranda of understanding in related fields and activate the work of the Iraqi-Spanish joint committee. Hussein also invited the Spanish Foreign Minister to visit Iraq.
For her part, Minister Arancha Gonzalez stressed the importance of strengthening bilateral relations and joint coordination. Spain's readiness to cooperate and make progress in the field of bilateral relations, welcoming the invitation to visit Iraq soon.
