Parliament Speaker Muhammad Al-Halbousi stressed the importance of supporting Iraq in security and economy, while calling for expanding the participation of French companies in investing in the country, and accelerating the implementation of strategic projects.
Al-Halbousi and his accompanying delegation, met the President of the French Senate, Gerard Larcher, in Paris, according to a statement by the media office of the Speaker of Parliament received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA).
During the meeting, they discussed mutual relations and strengthening the strategic cooperation in the field of economy, investment and security, to counter ISIS terrorist organization.
Al-Halbousi stressed the importance of Iraq's security and economic support in order to achieve stability, calling for expanding the participation of French companies in investing in Iraq, and accelerating the implementation of strategic projects agreed upon between the two countries.
He indicated the need to open a headquarters for the French Development Agency in Baghdad to facilitate the provision of economic support for Iraq.
On the other hand, President of the French Senate expressed his country's readiness to provide political, economic and security support to Iraq, pointing to France's readiness to provide experience and support with ideas and consultations for the formation of the second legislative chamber (the Federation Council) in Iraq, and the continuation of cooperation to combat extremism and terrorism, and to contribute to a greater role for reconstruction in Iraq, stressing that France is making efforts to strengthen cooperation between the two countries.
