The Prime Minister’s Advisor for Elections Affairs, Abdul-Hussein Al-Hindawi, revealed two international teams to monitor early elections in Iraq, while referring to upcoming talks with the United Nations to determine the size and work of the UN team.
Al-Hindawi told the Iraqi News Agency (INA): "The international election monitoring team will be composed of two types of international observers, the first being observers selected by the United Nations, and it will be the main team, and the second team will be formed from countries that want to send international observers to Iraq, such as the European Union countries. Or the Arab League and the Islamic Conference, and any other countries, because there are international organizations specialized in elections such as the Carter Network.”
Al-Hindawi added that "the government is now in the process of holding discussions with the United Nations regarding the size of the team and areas of work," noting that "work is not new to the United Nations, and it has a commitment in this area, and there are rules that are supposed to be activated."
He stressed that "all things are going towards holding the elections on their scheduled date on 10/10/2021," adding: "We expect that there will be no postponement of the elections and they will be good, and this is our great hope."
He pointed out that "there are many problems that should be addressed, such as political money and uncontrolled weapons," noting that "the government has formed a supreme committee for elections, made up of all relevant ministries, financial bodies and intelligence agencies, in addition to the commission."
He explained that "this committee continuously conducts a report in which it searches for all issues related to the protection of voters, the protection of polling stations, the protection of employees, and also the protection of candidates, all of which are the responsibilities of the government."
