The President of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Organizing Committee, Seiko Hashimoto, ruled out canceling or postponing the Games, amid fears of hosting the tournament due to the pandemic.
"We can't put off again," Hashimoto said in the interview.
And nearly ten thousand volunteers to organize the Olympics and Paralympics, which are scheduled to be held in the Japanese capital, Tokyo this year, have withdrawn.
The Japanese broadcaster, NHK, reported that the withdrawal of this huge number began last February, following the insulting statements of the former head of the organizing committee, Mori Yoshiro.
The total number of volunteers in organizing the Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games is 80,000, and the games that were scheduled to be held last year due to the outbreak of the epidemic were postponed to be held during the current year.
In a related context, a Japanese opinion poll showed that more than 80% of Japanese citizens oppose hosting the Olympic Games postponed due to the epidemic this year, which reflects an increasing public rejection about 10 weeks before the start of these games.
