The Parliamentary Agriculture and Water Committee confirmed, on Saturday, that Turkey did not adhere to the global agreements of the riparian countries.
"The Turkish side ignored the decrease in Iraq's water share by not adhering to the global agreements of the riparian countries. The Ministry of Water Resources bears the responsibility and tracks this file individually,” said a member of the committee, Abdul Amir Al-Dabi, in a special statement to the Iraqi News Agency (INA).
Al-Dabi stressed "the need for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to play its role and approach the United Nations towards Turkey's water policy," noting that "Turkey has built dams on the sources and path of the Tigris and Euphrates rivers, which led to a decrease in Iraq's water share despite the existence of global agreements related to the riparian countries.
He called for "the importance of coordinating positions between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Water Resources in this file, which is considered one of the security and economic issues, and must be dealt with by the Iraqi government,"
