The Ministry of Water Resources announced that measures will be taken to confront the possibility of the advance of the salt tongue in the Shatt al-Arab, attributing the reason to the great shortage of imports of the Karon River.
The ministry said, in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), that it "has taken several measures to confront the possibility of the advance of the salty tongue inside the Shatt al-Arab due to the great shortage of imports of the Karon River and in order to avoid increasing the concentrations of salts in the Al-Faw district center."
They added, "The Minister of Water Resources, Mahdi Rashid Al-Hamdani, instructed to ensure the continued supply of the Shatt al-Arab water quota determined by the organizer of Qalaa Saleh, and to follow up on this around the clock with constant emphasis on lifting abuses.
Water in Abu Al-Khasib, Sihan and Al-Faw, in addition to securing water for agricultural lands located on the side of the canal. "
