A government source denied today, Friday, the existence of any government decision or direction to impose additional taxes on the salaries of employees and retirees.
The source said to the Iraqi News Agency (INA): "The Prime Minister had indicated on more than one occasion the need to pay attention to the income of the poor and spare them the effects of fluctuations and economic crises.
Earlier, the Ministry of Finance issued an explanatory statement regarding the tax withholding.
A ministry statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA) stated that it “is working to implement all the decisions and texts contained in the General Budget Law for 2021 that the House of Representatives voted on, and that the book bearing the signature of Minister of Finance Ali Abdul Amir Allawi regarding tax deduction came in implementation of the provisions of Article 34. Paragraph (c) of the General Budget Law that includes (The House of Representatives cancels all customs and tax exemptions and exemptions granted by cabinet decision unless stipulated by the laws in force).
