National Security Adviser Qassim Al-Araji confirmed on Saturday, that Iraq is surprised that some countries have abandoned their citizens in Al-Hawl camp.
This came during a meeting between Al-Araji and the German Chargé d'Affairs in Baghdad Peter Felten and his accompanying delegation at his office on Saturday, according to a statement by the media office of the National Security Adviser, received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA).
During the meeting, they reviewed the Iraqi-German relations and ways to strengthen and develop them to serve the interests of the two friendly countries and peoples, as well as discussed the latest political and security developments in the region and the world.
The two sides stressed the importance of ongoing security cooperation in the field of counter-terrorism and exchanging experiences, given that Daesh cells still form a threat to Iraq and the region.
Al-Araji pointed out that "Iraq is surprised that some countries have abandoned and not followed up on their citizens in Al-Hawl camp, and that they are not demanded and received, as if the matter does not concern them,"
"Iraq wants to be a meeting point and an arena that contains and helps everyone, and will not be with a party against another,"Al-Araji explained adding, "any Iran-US or Saudi-Iranian rapprochement will have a positive impact on the security and stability of the region,"
For his part, Felten said that "his country's goal is to help Iraq," stressing that Germany is striving to bring about Iran-US rapprochement by pushing the two parties to avoid crises.
