London announced it was facing a "major accident" on Friday as its hospitals run the risk of being unable to cope with a highly contagious strain of the Coronavirus spreading across the UK.
Britain has the fifth largest number of Covid-19 deaths, more than 78,000, and Prime Minister Boris Johnson shut down the economy and made the country faster than its neighbors in a bid to curb the pandemic.
London Mayor Siddik Khan, who is from the opposition Labor Party, said hospital beds in the capital would be filled with sick patients over the next few weeks as the spread of the virus was "out of control."
