The Minister of Youth and Sports Adnan Darjal revealed that the agreement regarding the mechanism of initiating the Sports City project donated by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has not yet been finally settled.
In an exclusive interview with the Iraqi News Agency (INA), Darjal said: “The Council of Ministers decided to choose a site in Basmajah for the purpose of establishing the Sports City donated by Saudi Arabia. Indeed, the plot of land numbered (1/974) Al-Ja`ara area, with an area of (631) dunums, was allocated to the Ministry Youth and Sports, instead of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, and the Ministry of Youth and Sports supervising the Sports City project in coordination with the Saudi side through the Iraqi-Saudi Coordination Council, which was established according to Diwani Order 14 of 2020.
Darjal added that "a meeting was supposed to be held between Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kadhmi and Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, and it was postponed at the request of the Saudi side, and in the coming period an agreement will be reached to start work." Darajal pointed out that "this project will be reflected positively." And great on the distinguished bilateral relationship between Iraq and its Saudi brother, in addition to the job opportunities it will provide for young people.
Regarding the Sports Investment Law, Darjal explained that "the ministry has not presented the draft law to the cabinet yet," stressing that "the coming weeks will witness intensive meetings to formulate a set of ideas on the subject of this law."
