The Oman Football Association approved the request of the normalization body of the Iraqi Football Association to play a friendly match between the two teams in preparation for the Asian double qualifiers for the Qatar 2022 World Cup and the 2023 AFC Asian Cup in China, which has been postponed to next year.

A statement by the normalization body of the Iraqi Football Association, received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), said today, Thursday, that "the friendly match will take place on the thirteenth of next November, in the United Arab Emirates, provided that each team bears the costs of holding this match." Indicating that "coordination will take place later around the stadium and the timing of the friendly match between the two teams."
