The Minister of Health and Environment Jaafar Sadiq Allawi confirmed the safety of the Iraqi students and their families who are in Wuhan, China, pledging to return them to the country as soon as possible.
Allawi said in a special statement to the Iraqi News Agency: "The number of Iraqi students in the Chinese city of Wuhan is 63 students and their families with them," stressing that "the ministry is in constant contact with the Chinese authorities who have confirmed their safety from the Corona virus." He added that "Chinese measures in the Wuhan region prevented its residents from leaving the city, so the Iraqi embassy is closely following the matter to find a way to return students to the country," vowing to "provide all measures that would enable students and their families to return to Iraq."
For his part, the technical undersecretary of the Ministry of Health, Hazem Al-Jumaili, confirmed to the Iraqi News Agency (INA), that "the ministry has put in place a mechanism to prevent corona virus and the necessary procedures in the event of infections with this virus inside Iraq," noting that "border ports and airports have been dealt with as well With Chinese foreign companies located in Iraq, by setting up mechanisms to deal with them and measures taken to prevent the virus.”
