Iraqi Foreign Minister Muhammad Ali Al-Hakim insisted that the visit of his Iranian counterpart, Mohammad Javad Zarif, aims only on concluding the Memoranda of Understanding already signed between the two countries.

In a joint press conference with the Iranian FM, attended by INA, Al-Hakim said that ‘a number of bilateral issues, of interest to the two countries, have been discussed, including dredging the Shatt-al-arab waterway, the construction of industrial cities, and continuing what has already been achieved in this respect, in addition to rail road linking as well as the regional and international relationships.’

Al-Hakim pointed out also ‘the importance of regional security and the continuation of political dialogue with all the counties in the region.’

On his part Zarif asserted ‘the importance of bilateral relations between the two countries and the use of all possible means to elevate them for the best interest of both sides.’

Zarif added that ‘Theran is all willing to build balanced relationships with all countries of the Gulf,’ explaining that ‘the measures taken by US contradict the UN-Security Council resolution related to the use of violent force,’ calling on all participant countries in the nuclear agreement to abide by their commitments.
