Pope Francis, before leaving the hospital after recovering from pneumonia, called on Sunday for an immediate end to the Israeli bombing on Gaza Strip, noting that the humanitarian situation in Gaza has reached extremely dangerous levels.
In his first public appearance in five weeks, the Pope appealed to the international community and the warring parties to have the courage to resume dialogue and achieve a lasting ceasefire.
He noted that "the humanitarian situation in Gaza has reached extremely dangerous levels, requiring urgent action by all parties concerned."
The Pope's remarks came during the Angelus prayer, where he appeared exhausted on the balcony of the Gemelli Hospital in Rome, greeting the crowds who had come to check on his health.
The Pope gave the crowd a thumbs-up sign after being wheelchair to the balcony overlooking the hospital entrance.
