The Vatican press office announced on Saturday that Pope Francis will appear publicly on Sunday to participate in the Angelus prayer from the window of the Gemelli Hospital in Rome, where he is receiving treatment for severe pneumonia.

The office said: "The Pope intends to deliver the greeting and blessing from the Agostino Gemelli Hospital in Rome at the conclusion of the Angelus prayer, which will be published in writing, as has been the case in recent weeks."

The announcement came as the Vatican reported a recent improvement in the Pope's health, following fears for his life due to a lung infection. A medical bulletin issued by the Vatican last Wednesday confirmed the Pope's improved health.

The bulletin indicated that the pneumonia the Pope is suffering from has been "completely eliminated" but is now "under control," according to the bulletin.
The head of the Catholic Church has suffered from increasing health problems in recent years, and as a young man, he underwent surgery to remove part of one of his lungs.
