Deputy Prime Minister for Energy Affairs and Minister of Oil Hayan Abdul-Ghani affirmed on Thursday that they are serious about securing gas fuel for domestic use, especially the electricity sector.
The Ministry of Oil stated in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA) that "Abdul-Ghani chaired a meeting to discuss gas investment projects for the current year and the coming years," noting that "the meeting was attended by the Undersecretary of the Ministry for Gas Affairs, Izzat Saber, the Director General of the South Gas Company, the Director General of the Department of Studies, Planning, and Follow-up, the Director of the Basra Gas Company, and the company's Deputy Managing Director."
It added, "During the meeting, preparations were discussed for supplying dry gas to the national gas transmission network, to support the supply of gas to power plants during the coming summer.
The meeting also discussed projects completed last year that will support national gas production. The meeting also reviewed the gas production and investment plan for the current year and the coming years."
According to the statement, the minister affirmed the ministry's commitment to "increasing gas investment rates through projects being implemented to invest in associated gas and develop gas fields," noting the ministry's "serious efforts to secure gas fuel for domestic uses, especially the electricity sector."
