A Borussia Dortmund volunteer died on Wednesday during the club's Champions League match against Sporting, the German club said on Thursday.
Dortmund didn't provide any information on the circumstances of the 63-year-old's death. He leaves behind a wife and twim daughters.
The club said the man "had been an integral part of the volunteer team since July 2013 and had helped at almost every match since then. With his tireless commitment, he was a great asset to the volunteers," the club said in a statement.
His tasks included offering help and advice to fans, answering questions and addressing their concerns.
Dortmund were held to a 0-0 draw, but that was enough to advance from the play-off tie to the last 16 thanks to the 3-0 win in the first leg in Lisbon.
