The Lebanese Parliament elected General Joseph Aoun President of the country today, Thursday, after counting the votes in the second round of parliament voting to elect a President of the Republic after the position had been vacant for more than two years.

Aoun was elected with 99 votes in the second round of voting during a session attended by all 128 representatives after the session was suspended this afternoon for consultation after he failed to elect a President of the country in the first round.
