The Ministry of Health announced on Sunday that 2,570 cases of suffocation were recorded during the recent dust wave, confirming that no fatalities were reported.

Ministry spokesperson Saif Al-Bader stated to the Iraqi News Agency (INA) that “health institutions across Baghdad and the governorates received 2,570 cases of suffocation, with the majority reported in Baghdad, Wasit, and Basra.”

He added, “All necessary medical interventions were provided, and most patients have been discharged. No deaths have been recorded.”

Al-Bader reassured that health institutions are fully equipped to handle emergencies, highlighting the readiness of specialized medical staff and the availability of essential medicines and medical supplies.

In response to the dust wave, Health Minister Saleh al-Hasnawi had earlier instructed the activation of emergency wards, the deployment of medical personnel and ambulances, and the provision of oxygen cylinders and other critical resources in Baghdad and other affected regions.

Dust storms have become a recurring challenge in the region, intensified by environmental factors such as climate change and desertification.
