MOFA: Women's rights have been progressively promoted and protected in Iraq

    The Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed, today, Wednesday, that Iraq has achieved tangible progress in promoting and protecting women's rights.

    A statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA) stated that "Iraq reaffirms its stance against all forms of violence against women, and its support for the efforts of Iraqi institutions implementing the (16-day campaign to combat violence against women)."

    The statement added that "the Republic of Iraq renews its commitment to ending all forms of violence against women and girls, as this violence constitutes a flagrant violation of human rights and fundamental freedoms, in addition to being an obstacle to social and economic development."

    The statement indicated that "the international campaign represents an opportunity to affirm Iraq's firm commitment to confronting discrimination against women and rejecting all forms of violence directed against them," indicating that "the Republic of Iraq joins international efforts aimed at eliminating violence against women as a humanitarian issue that affects the entire society."

    The statement continued, "The Republic of Iraq has achieved tangible progress in promoting and protecting women's rights and increasing their participation in political and public life. Women's rights are constitutionally guaranteed, guaranteed by national laws, and implemented in government policies and strategies. Iraqi women have also played a pivotal role in the plans and programs developed for rehabilitation and integration, and consolidating security and stability after the victory over terrorism. Today, they represent a fundamental pillar in government plans and national legislation aimed at strengthening the economy and achieving comprehensive development, while preserving the values ​​and principles of society."

    The statement concluded, "The Republic of Iraq highlights the violations and violence suffered by Palestinian women by the authorities of the Zionist entity, and Iraq renews its call to the international community to stand united in confronting the violence to which Palestinian women are subjected, and to condemn all forms of violations committed by the occupation authorities."
