NASA has released advanced 3D simulations detailing the sun’s internal activity, offering insights into solar behavior that affects Earth’s climate and space systems.
Led by Irina Kitiashvili at NASA Ames, the research focuses on modeling smaller solar regions due to computational limits. The simulations, powered by the Pleiades supercomputer, reveal dynamic flows and structures like shock waves and tornado-like features, critical for understanding solar impacts on satellites and astronauts.
“This is a step toward decoding the sun’s complex processes,” Kitiashvili said.
The work highlights the importance of unraveling solar mysteries to better predict and prepare for space weather.
