The foreign ministers of Iran and Russia announced on Saturday their countries' support for Syria in confronting terrorist groups.

Russian Foreign Minister, Sergey Lavrov, made a phone call to his Iranian counterpart, Abbas Araghchi, during which they discussed developments in the situation in Syria stressing "its support for Syria in confronting terrorist groups," stated the Russian Foreign Ministry - followed by the Iraqi News Agency - INA.

The two sides also stressed "the need for coordination between Iran, Russia and Turkey as guarantor countries in the Astana track."

Araghchi explained during the call that "Syria's neighboring countries must work to thwart the dangerous conspiracy in Syria and confront terrorism there," calling on "the international community to assume its responsibilities in confronting terrorism."

He stressed that "the recent movements of terrorist groups in Syria are part of the project of the Zionist entity and the United States to destabilize the security of the West Asia region," stressing that "Iran, Russia and the rest of the countries of the region must work with more coordination and vigilance to thwart this dangerous conspiracy."
