The spokesman for the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Major General Yahya Rasool, confirmed today, Friday, that the borders with Syria are tightly fortified and highly secured, stressing that any terrorist trying to enter the Iraqi borders will face a firm and strong response.
Major General Rasoul said in a special statement to the Iraqi News Agency (INA): "Securing the Iraqi borders completely is one of our priorities," noting that "the borders with neighboring Syria, especially in the northeastern regions of Syria, are secure and fortified, and there are sectors of the Border Forces Command equipped with the latest weapons and equipment, as well as tight fortifications in addition to monitoring the borders via drones."
He added that "behind the border, forces are sectors of the Iraqi army to secure these areas, and the armed forces have continuous monitoring operations and the borders are secured and heavily fortified," noting that "the intelligence services monitor any movement of terrorist gangs, and if they try to attack or reach the Iraqi borders, there will be a firm and strong response."
Rasoul explained that "the borders have been secured for a long time through the border forces, thermal cameras and drones, in addition to the qualitative and preemptive operations carried out within these areas, the latest of which was the strike that targeted 6 hideouts of the remnants of ISIS terrorist gangs in the Wadi Houran area."
