Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani confirmed, on Monday, the government's desire to develop the trade balance with Turkey.
The Prime Minister's media office stated in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA): that “Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani met today, the Turkish Minister of Trade, Mr. Ömer Bolat, who is visiting Iraq accompanied by a large delegation of approximately 150 businesspersons from the Turkish Exporters Assembly and the Turkish Contractors Association. The visit includes stops in Baghdad and Basra as part of a working trip.
During the meeting, Prime Minister Al-Sudani emphasized Iraq’s openness to establishing a serious and genuine partnership with Turkey in various fields, particularly as the Iraqi government has implemented a series of economic reforms that have enhanced the investment environment in the country.
He also highlighted the government’s desire to improve the trade balance between the two countries, especially in light of the rapid growth of Iraq’s industrial sector.
The meeting also addressed the upcoming session of the Iraqi-Turkish Economic and Trade Committee, which is scheduled to convene in two weeks.
For his part, Minister Bolat conveyed the greetings of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan to Prime Minister Al-Sudani. He affirmed that the strengthening relationship between the two countries presents an opportunity to advance the agreements made during President Erdoğan’s visit to Iraq. He also discussed the Development Road project, expressing Turkey readiness to provide full support to move forward with this vital project, which holds significance for the region and the world.
