The Iraqi Minister of Labour and Social Affairs, Ahmed al-Asadi, confirmed on Saturday that the forthcoming population census will provide precise data on impoverished families eligible for social protection . He highlighted that Basra residents are soon to benefit from new facilities tailored to their needs.
During a meeting at the Social Protection Department in Basra, with notable attendees including the head of the commission, Ahmed al-Moussawi, the deputy governor for labour affairs, Hassan al-Najjar, the general director of the commission, Abdul Rahman al-Mansouri, and various department directors, al-Asadi emphasised the census's role in providing exact data on families receiving social protection.
He stressed the importance of redirecting aid to genuinely needy families rather than those who have unjustly exploited the system.
“We are committed to enhancing the ministry’s training centers and enrolling unemployed youth in development courses that align with labour market demands,” he added.
Al-Asadi also underscored the importance of constructing modern, climate-appropriate offices to meet Basra's unique needs, announcing that residents will soon witness the inauguration of these new, suitable facilities.
