Government spokesman Bassem Al-Awadi announced today, Monday, that Iraq is a maker and contributor to the Saudi summit and not just a participant, while he indicated that the Security Council cannot exceed a joint request from 40 Arab and Islamic countries to stop the war on Gaza and Lebanon.

Al-Awadi said in a statement to Al-Iraqiya News - followed by the Iraqi News Agency (INA): "The Saudi summit is an extension of Iraq's call regarding the aggression on Gaza and Lebanon," indicating that "the attendance at today's summit was impressive from the Arab leaders."

He added that "Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani had previously called for holding an Arab-Islamic summit during his participation in the General Assembly meetings in New York, and he also held intensive contacts with leaders and heads of Arab and Islamic countries to hold the summit, which received great conviction," noting that "Iraq is not just a participant in the Saudi summit, but rather a maker and contributor to it."

He explained, "There was keenness to hold an Arab-Islamic summit, and the international community is following and aware of the political messages from the summit leaders, the content of which is that the international community must play its role in stopping the war," explaining that "the summit leaders will submit an official request to the Security Council to stop the war on Gaza and Lebanon, as the Security Council cannot exceed a joint request from 40 Arab and Islamic countries."

He explained that "the Prime Minister stressed on more than one occasion the need to prevent the expansion of the war," noting that "the leaders' words contained strong condemnations of what the Zionist entity is committing."

He stated that "the Prime Minister of the Zionist occupation government, Benjamin Netanyahu, insists on continuing the war in this brutal manner, targeting defenceless civilians in Gaza and Lebanon."
