Sayyid Ali Al-Sistani, the supreme religious leader, requested that priorities be implemented in Iraq's best interests, according to Mohammed Al-Hassan, the UN representative in Iraq, who confirmed Monday that he and Al-Sistani would cooperate to improve Iraq's standing and security.
In a press conference that was attended by the Iraqi News Agency (INA) reporter following his meeting with Ali al-Sistani, the supreme religious leader, Al-Hassani stated: "I was honored as a special envoy in Iraq to meet with Sayyid Al-Sistani, and listened to his wisdom and vision for the region and Iraq."
Speaking of "the position of Sayyid Al-Sistani, in the Islamic and global world," he conveyed the Secretary-General's greetings to Al-Sistani and expressed his happiness "with this meeting and his advice, which aims to protect human beings."
Al-Hassan emphasized "not to accept prejudice to the status of reference" while pointing to "the agreement with Sayyid Al-Sistani to work together to strengthen the status of Iraq."
In addition, he stated that "the United Nations is supportive of Iraq and its endeavors remain towards sustainability and development, despite the end of the UNAMI era," adding that "the special envoys respect the advice provided by Sayyid Al-Sistani."
"The United Nations is committed to supporting Iraq's priorities and not to interfere except in advice," he added, adding that "Sayyid Al-Sistani asked to implement priorities in what is good for Iraq, and strengthens its relationship with its neighbors."
He stressed "the rejection of prejudice to the religious authority."
Regarding Gaza and Lebanon, Hassan said, "The Secretary-General has issued a lot of statements in this regard."
